Joris Bulstra was born in Maastricht, the Netherlands. At a young age he discovered his love for drawing. Using black and white, he tried to capture light and shadow. However, creating movement in a single frame interested him the most.
Following his true passion for filmmaking, he attended the Media and Design Academy in Genk, Belgium where he studied television and film. After obtaining his Bachelor’s degree, Joris attended the Dutch Film Academy in Amsterdam where he pursued his second Bachelor of Arts degree while specialising in Camera and Lighting.
At the Dutch Film Academy Joris shot several fiction films and documentaries. His interest for light and shadow gave his work an extra dimension.
Cinematography is about telling a story with images. Working with the director and crew to discover the right look and feel makes every film an adventure. Currently, Joris is working on several commercial projects and fiction films.
